Autumn and Chinese Medicine
Autumn is a beautiful time of year. The color of the leaves are changing, the temperature is cooler, and the days are shorter. The trees are dropping their leaves and preparing for winter. In Chinese medicine this season correlates with the Metal Element. The seasons have resonances and the body organs that correspond to the Metal element are the Lung and Colon. It is a time of inspiration and a time of letting go.
We take in the beauty of the season. We can feel inspired. It is a reminder to stop and appreciate. Whatever is going on in your life, stop and take time to find the beauty. It may be as simple as noticing the leaves on the ground. Or the beauty of a rock formation. Be grateful for something or someone in your life. The correlation for the emotion of this season is grief. Autumn invites us to let go of that which is not serving us. Find the gem and let go of the rest. This is a great time of year to clean out a closet and donate clothes you no longer need.
Part of the beauty of acupuncture is it invites us to listen to what our bodies are telling us. The seasons are nature but also speak to us and invite us to be a part of the season. If we listen to what the season tells us and act in accordance with nature, we will find ourselves more in tune with our bodies. Acupuncture can be very helpful when there is not ease within the seasonal change.
